Reasons Quality Assurance is Important

Posted under web design basics by admin on Thursday 15 September 2011 at 7:13 am

There are many reasons quality assurance is important and should not be left out.  Many companies cut the quality assurance team first when financial times are hard.  This can be one of the biggest mistakes you can make with your business.  Quality assurance is important to ensure you meet all of the requirements of a project, don’t have a lawsuit, and you are putting out a quality product the customers will be happy with.

Quality assurance on a project means having a team of people or a person to ensure all of the requirements on a project are met.  Quality assurance needs to be performed on a website, products you are manufacturing, services provided, and anything that will come into contact with a customer.  Quality assurance means you are assuring quality.  If you provide an edge protector or cardboard edge protectors, providing quality assurance would mean that you make sure they work properly to protect the corner of a piece of furniture.  All of the written requirements of a product should be met.

Lawsuits often occur with products and businesses because quality assurance doesn’t exist and people don’t understand the concept.  Don’t consider having a business if you don’t know what quality assurance is and you don’t care about it.  This tells the customers that you don’t care about them.  A lawsuit can occur when your products are not tested thoroughly and sent out to the public.  If your custom packaging solutions include a substance that should not be breathed in by a person, this can cause the employee harm and the customer, and a big lawsuit.  Quality assurance means you care about the customer, the product, and the bottom line.  Ensuring you have a safe product for the customer shows the customer you care.

Quality assurance means you have the best product.  Many quality assurance teams ensure a product meets the requirements and walk away.  The best quality assurance teams ensure the requirements are met but also find ways to improve as they are testing the product.  They act as if they are a customer and use the product as they would and see things they would like to be improved or made better.  This is true quality assurance.  Always ensure your product is the best by making sure there are no flaws, there is nothing missing in the requirements, and find everything that can be done to make the product better.

Quality assurance shows the customers who buy your product you care.  It shows the vendors, investors, and anyone else you work with you believe in giving a good product to the customers.  People will not want to work with you if your product is not worth buying or not safe.  Always provide an excellent product by utilizing a team or a person to test your product and ensure it is safe for the customer, easy to use, and meets all of the requirements.  This will ensure that your product is the best one on the market for people to use.

Looking at Your Website like a Customer

Posted under web design and audience by admin on Wednesday 11 May 2011 at 9:14 am

It is way too easy for us to get comfortable in our own little worlds. We often get to the point that we are numb to things that we see every day. It is like we are walking around with blinders on that stop us from actually seeing the way things actually are. We do that in our home environment, our daily job and all too often we take that same approach to our websites. We need to step back and look at it with fresh eyes and only then is it likely that we will see the flaws that are present in the concept.

For example if we were running a website based on a need to help someone attain a US Green Card. That site would have information from the USCIS that would be designed to help illegal aliens become legal to remain in this country. It would be full of pertinent information which we obtained form the United States Immigration service.

Now technically we could simply place the information on the website and call it complete. However it would be very boring and in the eyes of people coming to the website, it may give them the information that they need and they would be able to get what they needed from the site. But in reality it is unlikely that these folks would then turn around and tell other people that they know about that particular site.

If we now stood back and looked at the site like a stranger, we might see that there are ways that we can impart the information from the United States Immigration department in such a way that it is less stale. We can redesign things so that getting that US Green Card becomes more enjoyable and that the USCIS is put in a more favorable light. That will make it far more likely that the people that use your service will tell other about how they enjoyed the experience.

All of that will translate into more traffic and that will equate to more dollars in your pocket and that is truly what it is all about unless you are doing this out of the kindness of your heart to help people. Even then at some point you need to make a little bit of money to validate that things are working correctly.

It is certainly no easy matter to take something stagnant and boring like the United States Immigration process and turn it around to where getting a US Green Card is a fun thing to do. You also will find it hard to get to the point that the USCIS look like a great place in the eyes of the people going through the system. The best that you can hope for here is that it is tolerable and that the issues become easily forgettable and that the customer has as easy a time as they can, given the circumstances.

Sometimes it is the small things that make the largest impact.

Tips for Great Content

Posted under content by admin on Thursday 22 January 2009 at 11:19 am

If you are building an online site for a business it must have good content. There are many things you need to consider with your content which includes relevance, proper keywords and phrases, interesting and beneficial, and much more. Content is important for an online business’s success.

Content is the text that you put on your website. If you don’t have any words on your site but prices under photos and your company name then you have a lot of changes you need to make. Content includes product descriptions, articles, how to, frequently asked questions, and much more. Without content a site is strange to visitors and even confusing.

When you write content on your website it is important to provide relevant text to the products and services you offer to the online communities. If you sell Christmas trees on your online site it is important to make this clear. You can offer information about things like lighted palm trees and artificial Christmas trees but if you go off on a tangent about unrelated things like frogs then you are causing a problem for your business. This is because your content works with the search engines and if you have information about frogs then people searching for them will pull up your holiday site also. Always stick with text that is relevant.

Search engines look for specific words and phrases on websites. They work by scanning sites and indexing the specific words and phrases. These are words and phrases that you think a user will type into a search engine when they are looking for the products and services you offer. If your site doesn’t have words and phrases regarding the products and services that you offer then the users will never find you when they run a search on a search engine.

When you provide content on a website the best way to maintain your customer’s attention is by using content that is interesting and beneficial. When you provide unique information that is interesting then you hook the reader and they may come back for more. When you provide useful information to users then they will take your tips and tricks and use them at home. They will also come back to your site also. Users often bookmark sites they find beneficial so they can easily access it. Bookmarks look very good for any business and also give you an extra point with the search engines and how high you will rank in the result pages.

Content is very important on a site. When you sell products, users need to know information about the products and services so they can make a proper decision. You need to rank well in the search engine results also. Always provide relevant content with keywords and phrases that work well. With the right content on your site you may find you drive more traffic to your site and increase your revenues. There are companies and freelance writers you can hire to write content for you if you are not sure what to put on a company website.

Ways Poor Functionality can Affect Your Online Business

Posted under web design and audience by admin on Saturday 27 December 2008 at 10:10 am

Functionality is one of the most important things when you build a website. There are many ways poor functionality can affect your site. Poor functionality occurs in many ways and includes issues like broken links, too much depth, maneuverability, and much more.

Broken links can cause serious problems with a site. They often occur when people house their own website and work out of the folder housing the web files. The biggest problems occur when multiple people have access to the same system and clean up folders and directories by moving them around and make changes to folder names or even delete things. This causes the web files to be pointed to a location that no longer exists. For example, if you have a photo of an artificial Christmas tree on your site and the folder is no longer in the same location or the picture has been deleted then the picture will not show up on the web page. When links direct users to photos and files this is the most common cause. Broken links make it impossible for customers to purchase artificial Christmas trees if they want to if the links to the shopping cart do not work.

Websites cannot be too deep, meaning they should only go three pages deep from the home page. Many online companies fail because the most important pages on their site are 5 and 6 pages deep. Search engines won’t index pages that are deeper than 3 pages. This means that the most important pages will not be displayed in the search engine results. Always think lateral and not vertical when building your website. This way, the page with your most attractive artificial Christmas tree will be displayed in the search engine results.

Maneuverability is often another problem for online businesses. It is common for sites to be difficult to click around and have a clear understanding of where you are. Users need to have the ability to identify their location on the site at all times. If they want to get back to the home page then it should be one click away. When users get lost on sites they will just go elsewhere for their business. Building a website that is easy to maneuver around is very important. You can do this by having people click through your site to verify that it is very easy to use.

There are many elements to proper web design. Functionality is very important in order for a site to be successful on the Internet today. Thousands of companies online fail each year due to poor functionality problems. Ways to ensure you have proper functionality includes making sure all of your links work properly, build lateral, make your site easy to use and more. The best way to avoid problems with broken links and files going missing is to house your website files on a hosting server that no one has access to. Functionality can drive traffic away from your site and cause a company to lose revenues.

Basics of Website Design

Posted under web design basics by admin on Sunday 10 August 2008 at 9:22 am

There are many basics of website design that should be considered when putting together a website. These basic elements include content, usability, appearance, and visibility.

The content of a website is essential to assisting with generating traffic, improving the site ranking, and more. Your content should be relative to the products and services you offer to the consumers. For instance, if you have a site laying out the information for people about how to become a US citizen, the information on the site should be related. You shouldn’t have content on your site that is not related. This is because your site could be pulled up on unrelated searches. Invalid information will generate unrelated and disinterested traffic, which means you won’t have sales and revenue from these people.

Usability means user-friendly. This means that it is easy for the users to use. If your users are searching for the green card lottery they should have no problem finding the information they need. In addition, the users should know where they are at all times of clicking around your site. Customers should not get lost on the site and it should be easy to get back to the home page from every page on your site. It is usually recommended that websites are a maximum of three pages deep.

The appearance of your INS site should be professional and appealing to the eyes. A site should not shout out at the users with colors that are hard to look at or that can cause a headache. This is a good way to never generate traffic to your site. The graphics on the web pages should flow and be consistent throughout. You don’t want your site to look completely different on every web page. This will make the customers think they are on a different company site on each page.

The next element of a good website is the visibility. The site needs to be easy to find throughout most search engines. You don’t need to pay search engines for visibility. You need to conform to the rules set forth throughout the search engines, register them, and have the proper content on your site. Search engines will index the content on your site and they will grab specific words from each of the pages. These words will be what the users type in when they search for something. This will help you create visibility for your online business.

There are four primary elements you must think about when you build an online business. These elements include the content of the site, how easy it is to use, how the site looks, and the visibility of the site. If you want your business to be successful online you must consider the basic elements of a site. You will be able to update your site accordingly and add to it all of the time. You should think about these four things. Be sure to add plenty of pictures to your site too and create a site that people are interested in. Don’t let your site become outdated either.

Understanding Your Audience in Website Design

Posted under web design and audience by admin on Sunday 27 July 2008 at 7:30 pm

There are several things you should consider when you think about designing your website. One of the most important things is your target audience. The things you need to consider about your audience include the characteristics, the preferences, specifications, and the web experience. These elements are very important when you design your online business.

The audience characteristics are very important. If you are selling candles on your online business you need to think about who your target audience is. More women purchase candles than men do. However, you need to consider that men also purchase them as gifts for women. Not only do you consider female or male audience characteristics but you need to think about the age range you are trying to target. This is because the content and the pictures will need to be related to the age group. Age group makes a big difference. If your site is designed for teenagers then your products may not be too appealing to a crowd of users over the age of 40.

The information preferences on your site also need to be based on your audience also. This is also related to the age of your audience. You want to include content and information that people are looking for. You might have content related to bathroom vanity items and how useful your products and services are. What do people want to read about when they come to your site? You need to find out what interests people the most and provide the content. This way you won’t have too many emails with questions also.

Computer specifications are important also. You should think about the specifications of your site and be sure it works with most computer systems. When you build a website from scratch or you hire a web design company they may use a proprietary software that is not compatible with most systems. Be sure you design your web pages with a tool that is compatible with most systems.

The web experience is also important when you consider the audience you are trying to target. You should think about what your customers expect when they go online today. The older crowd of web surfers isn’t looking for an interactive site but information packed sites. These surfers are happy with a basic site that is not too busy or confusing. Sites that are busy and provide a lot of interaction are hit more by the younger crowd. This is because the younger crowd is up on new technologies and to keep their attention you need to be up on the technologies also.

When you think about the audience of your site you need to consider many things. If you want your online business to be successful it is important to target the right age range for people who will be interested in the products and services your business offers. You should provide useful information and content and think about how busy and interactive your audience will want the site to be.
